I recorded this as a surprise for my boyfriend back in 2018. At the time we had only known each other for a few months and during that time I had come to realise what a big football fan he is. His team is Liverpool, and “You’ll Never Walk Alone” is sort of the unofficial anthem for that club, so I decided to make my own version of it to surprise him on his birthday that September.

I was on tour at the time so I recorded it directly onto my iPad using the built-in microphone, and I think it turned out great. When his birthday came, I put some headphones on him and played him the recording and I think he was pretty shocked to hear it. It’s really fascinating how emotional certain songs can be for people who love football. He played it to one of his friends and they both started to cry.

I did something similar thing with “Blue Moon”, which is a song that Manchester City fans have taken to heart. That was originally for my long-time manager, and then it was released on the Portrayals compilation form earlier this year.
