I discovered Joni Mitchell’s music when I was 19. She was one of the first artists I listened to who were writing that kind of singer/songwriter folk, and she was enormously inspiring to me. I got my first guitar about a year later and gradually began to be able to play more of her music. It was often pretty difficult to learn, with all her alternative tunings, but I do see her music and Ani DiFranco’s music as my teachers in a way.
I only remembered about this recording of Joni’s classic “Both Sides Now” recently. My boyfriend was walking around the house singing this song to himself over and over, and talking about how much he loved it. Then all of a sudden I thought, hang on, didn’t I do a version of this years ago? And sure enough, I had!
It was actually recorded for an event in Malmö, Sweden. I wasn’t able to go to the event so I suggested that I make a video recording at my studio in Stockholm to send to the organisers. Strangely, after I sent it to them, I just didn’t think about it anymore, but listening back I really like how it turned out. I changed it into a waltz and I think it has a kind of presence.

I love to listen to this during work, it fills me with calmness and I can almost smell the scents of the forest.
Beautiful & serene from start to finish. SilverFolfy
